Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges Dam may be the most massive and amazing structures in the modern world. This incredible structure is located at the Xilinxia Gorge, one of the three Gorges within the mighty Yangtze River. I decided to tour this area of China to learn more about the structure. The Three Gorges Dam was created for one main purpose, to improve the development of the Yangtze River. The dam will help prevent flooding into local towns, a problem that is common in this area. Many houses were completely covered and destroyed by the river in previous years. As well as preventing flooding, the Three Gorges Dam creates energy for nearby areas. The water above the trench has potential energy and as a small amount moves through the dam, the energy changes to kinetic. The Three Gorges Dam has taught me a lot about water. I have learned that water is an increadably powerful force, yet it can be put to good use.

The Yangtze River that is withheld by the Three Gorges Dam has great force. This dam helps generate electricity for practical uses without creating pollution. It also prevents flooding. Much like my place, the Hoover Dam also creates electricity from its moving river. Unlike the Hoover dam which was created for the sole use of making electricity, the Three Gorges Dam was mainly built to prevent flooding of other nearby villages.
