Geographically, most earthquakes occur along plate boundaries, howevwer,
in the world, earthquakes seem to occur most often along the east coast of
Asia and out towards the Philippines, Paupa New Guinea and Australia.
This most likely occurs because it is at this point that the Eurasian, Pacific and Philippine plates meet. All of these plates converge or collide with one another.
The area in the world where most earthquakes occur is called the Ring of Fire.
This is because of the amount of volcanic activity in this region.
The earthquake closest to Manitou Springs occurred on January 15 at 12:10:02
P.M. The Earthquake was measured at 5 kilometers deep and since it had a magnitude force of 3.2, It was most likely not felt. This earthquake was about 32 times more powerful than a magnitude 1 earthquake.

I researched an earthquake that occurred on January 20, 2009 at 12:06:56 in Minahasa, Sulawesi, Indonesia at 0.495°N, 121.032°E. This earthquake was a magnitude of 5.1 and therefore was about 51 times more powerful than a magnitude 1 earthquake. The earthquake was about 78 kilometers (48.5 miles) deep. This region experiences 2-3 earthquakes of a magnitude of 5 or more per year and maintains a population of about 733029. I could find no record of the damage caused by this earthquake.
Though we currently have no technology that can detect an earthquake before it strikes, we can take steps to insure our safety if we are ever caught in such a disaster. If you are indoors when an earthquake occurs, you should crouch under a sturdy table or desk and hold onto it. If you can find no such table or desk, you should crouch against an inner wall and cover your head and neck. You should evoid windows, wall hangings, or unstable furniture that might topple. If you are outdoors when an earthquake strikes, you should crouch down in an open area away from trees, vehicles, powerlines and buildings.
